By analyzing English and Spanish media coverage on earthquake risk over a decade within the San Diego region, this study discusses the role of journalism on shaping earthquake risk perception, as a catalyst for effective seismic preparedness, stressing the open challenges and needs. In addition, the results of an exploratory survey launched in the San Diego region suggest that diverse solutions to effectively communicate essential information on seismic risk shall be explored, mindful of the diversity and specific vulnerabilities of the population residing in the focus region.
