The correlation is also based on paleontological and sedimentological information, this representing the first, although preliminary, magnetostratigraphic approach to the distal alluvial and lacustrine Miocene deposits of the Madrid Basin. The composite magnetostratigraphic succession of the Madrid Basin spans from chron C5Br to chron C5n, which represents around 6 Ma, in the middle and upper Miocene, recorded by a 185 m thick succession.
