The analysis focusses on three basic objectives: the ideology of the Order of Santiago, its institutional structures, and the political strategies of its members in the context of the politics of the realm. At the end of the fourteenth century, the Order of Santiago was the main military Order, with the largest number of vassals, the most extensive geographic area and the most lucrative revenues.
