La intencionalidad política que había tras esas conmemoraciones, así como los procesos que llevaron a las mismas y la representación individual que se hizo del teniente Ruiz, serán el aspecto central tratado por el texto. Asimismo, el encaje de todos estos actos en la «estatuomanía» europea del siglo xix y las representaciones de héroes y eventos nacionales servirá de marco más amplio para la presente investigación. El rol jugado por la prensa durante los eventos tendrá un tratamiento destacado.This paper delves into the research on public memory functions about Jacinto Ruiz, the diminished hero from the Dos de Mayo, expressed in two moments of the change of centuries: raising of its Madrilenian statue (1891) and the move of his mortal remains from Trujillo to Ma-drid (1909). Political purposefulness behind those commemorations, as well as the processes which lead to them and the individual representation of lieutenant Ruiz, will be the central aspect studied by the text. Additionally, the fitting of all those actions in the 19th century European «statue-mania» and the heroes and national events’ representations will serve as the widest framework for the pre-sent research.
