Sobre la naturaleza del límite de placas actual entre la Península Ibérica y el norte de África

This boundary contains four different zones corresponding to the here named as Oceanic Area, Gulf of Cadiz, Alboran Sea and Algerian Margin. West of Gibraltar, a simple-shear tectonic regime together with a strong mechanical coupling can be considered, being the deformation concentrated in several main faults. An effective transmission of the deformation occurs along the Portuguese Margin. In the Alboran Sea, the convergence is assumed by means of a pure-shear tectonic regime and the deformation is highly distributed. This central sector is characterized by a weak mechanical coupling with no effective transmission of the deformation towards the interior of the Iberian Peninsula. In the Algerian Margin, the deformation is more concentrated and a strong coupling can be consideredEntre África y la Península Ibérica la convergencia oblicua es acomodada en un límite de placas mal definido. Este límite contiene cuatro sectores que se corresponden con los aquí denominados como: Área Oceánica, Golfo de Cádiz, Mar de Alborán y Margen Argelina. En los dos primeros se puede considerar un régimen de cizalla simple y un acoplamiento fuerte con la deformación concentrada en estructuras mayores que tienden a ser paralelas al margen. Se produce en estos sectores una transmisión efectiva de la deformación hacia el interior de la península a lo largo de la Margen Portuguesa. En el Mar de Alborán la convergencia es asumida en un régimen de cizalla pura con un acoplamiento débil. No se produce en este sector una transmisión efectiva de la deformación.
