Street Art & Urban Creativity, 12(1), 49–60. https://doi.org/10.62161/sauc.v12.626210.62161/sauc.v12.6262https://hdl.handle.net/20.500.14352/132517Este artículo reflexiona sobre el impacto del arte urbano contemporáneo en edificios históricos, tomando como ejemplo la intervención del artista español Okuda San Miguel (Santander, 1980) en el Antiguo Cuartel de Inválidos y Voluntarios a Caballo de la localidad madrileña de San Lorenzo de El Escorial (España) y de la importancia que tiene crear acciones comunicativas planificadas para divulgar entre la población el arte contemporáneo más allá de la propia obra. La investigación analiza cómo la polifacética obra de Okuda, reconocida por su geometría, colorido y fantasía pop, transforma espacios patrimoniales en una «pequeña Capilla Sixtina civil del arte urbano», abriendo debate sobre el diálogo entre tradición y vanguardia en el patrimonio arquitectónico en un contexto tan clásico y renacentista como es el entorno escurialense y las construcciones neoclásicas posteriores en esta misma localidad en el siglo XVIII. Del mismo modo, se analizan las actividades de comunicación y formación creadas en paralelo a la intervención para dar a conocer y divulgar el arte contemporáneo en San Lorenzo de El Escorial a través de talleres, encuentros, conferencias y cursos de verano.This article reflects on the impact of contemporary urban art on historic buildings, taking as a case study the intervention by the Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel (Santander, 1980) at the former Barracks of Invalids and Mounted Volunteers in the town of San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Spain), as well as on the importance of designing planned communication strategies to disseminate contemporary art among the wider public beyond the artwork itself. The research analyses how Okuda’s multifaceted oeuvre, characterised by geometry, vivid colour and pop-inspired fantasy, transforms heritage spaces into what may be described as a “small civic Sistine Chapel of urban art”, thereby opening a debate on the dialogue between tradition and avant-garde within architectural heritage.
