El registro achelense en el entorno de Ambrona y Torralba

Abstract

Presentamos los resultados obtenidos en la prospección de las formaciones fluviales pleistocenas del norte de la provincia de Guadalajara, realizada con objeto de controlar la existencia de industrias paleolíticas en áreas próximas a los yacimientos de Ambrona y Torralba (Soria). Se han registrado restos significativos en terrazas fluviales situadas en torno a +20 m de cota sobre el fondo de sus respectivos valles que pueden tener cronologías dentro del último tercio del Pleistoceno medio, en el rango temporal de las ocupaciones achelenses documentadas en las dos localidades sorianas mencionadas. Las concentraciones más importantes reconocidas corresponden al tecnocomplejo achelense y se localizan en el río Cañamares, aguas arriba y abajo de la localidad de ese nombre. Otros indicios se han confirmado en la cuenca alta del río Henares y en otras formaciones fluviales de cursos menores al sur de Atienza. Proponemos finalmente unas breves consideraciones sobre el término “yacimiento” aplicado a las localizaciones de industria paleolítica al aire libre.

We present the results obtained from a survey of the Pleistocene fluvial formations in the north of the province of Guadalajara, carried out to control the existence of Palaeolithic industries in areas close to the sites of Ambrona and Torralba (Soria). Significant remains have been recorded in fluvial terraces located around +20 m above the bottom of their respective valleys, which may have chronologies within the last third of the Middle Pleistocene, within the time range of the Acheulean occupations documented in the two Soria localities mentioned. The most important concentrations recognised correspond to the Acheulean technocomplex and are located in the Cañamares River, upstream and downstream from the locality of the same name. Other remains have been found in the upper basin of the Henares River and in other fluvial formations of smaller watercourses to the south of Atienza. Finally, we propose some brief considerations for the term “site” as applied to open-air Palaeolithic industrial sites.
