La fotografía taxonómica en el herbario

Abstract

El artículo aborda la evolución de la estética del herbario, desde los primeros dibujos científicos hasta el surgimiento de la fotografía botánica y su relación con movimientos artísticos como el Art Nouveau. Se destaca el impacto de trabajos como el de Karl Blossfeldt en la fotografía botánica y cómo estas imágenes marcaron un punto de inflexión en la representación de los herbarios. Se presentan algunos proyectos fotográficos contemporáneos que reinterpretan la estética clásica del herbario y cuestionan la relación entre lo real y lo simulado en la imagen. Estos ejemplos ilustran una relectura crítica y socialmente comprometida, proponiendo un nuevo enfoque en la representación de la naturaleza. El artículo concluye reflexionando sobre la necesidad de revisar los estándares convencionales de los herbarios, que han relegado a las plantas a meros objetos de estudio, despojándolas de su contexto y significado cultural. Propone una nueva mirada hacia la botánica, tanto desde el arte como desde la ciencia, que reconozca y respete la complejidad y la interdependencia entre las plantas y su entorno, desafiando así la visión patriarcal de la relación entre humanos y naturaleza.

The article reviews the history of taxonomic herbarium photography and considers the evolution of its aesthetics in relation to some modern artistic movements. On the basis of this reflection, some contemporary photographic projects are presented that propose a new approach to the image of nature. By reinterpreting the classical aesthetics of the herbarium, these works question the relationship between the real and the simulated, offering us a critical and socially engaged re-reading of the representation of the plant kingdom. The article proposes a revision of the ways of representing herbaria, which have traditionally relegated plants to mere objects of study, stripping them of their context and cultural significance. It concludes with the need for a new way of looking at botany, from both art and science, that recognises and respects the complexity and interdependence between plants and their habitat.
