Abstract
La presente tesis trata sobre las reformas políticas y sociales implementadas en Cuba entre 2008 y 2023, un período que representa un punto de inflexión en la historia contemporánea de la isla. Desde la Revolución Cubana de 1959, Cuba ha sido un bastión del socialismo en América Latina, erigiéndose como un desafío al orden capitalista y a la influencia hegemónica de Estados Unidos. Sin embargo, la enfermedad de Fidel Castro en 2006 y la posterior transferencia del poder a su hermano Raúl Castro en 2008 marcan el inicio de un proceso de reformas destinado a modernizar el sistema cubano en respuesta a las crecientes dificultades económicas y sociales. Este análisis busca comprender las dinámicas que han caracterizado este proceso reformista y su impacto en la estabilidad del régimen político cubano. Los objetivos centrales de esta investigación son diversos y se centran en el análisis de las reformas introducidas por Raúl Castro, que entre otras abarcan desde la expansión del sector privado y la apertura a la inversión extranjera hasta el aumento del espacio para la Iglesia Católica, representando así un cambio significativo en la política económica y social del país...
This thesis focuses on the political and social reforms implemented in Cuba between 2008 and 2023, a period that represents a turning point in the contemporary history of the island. Since the Cuban Revolution of 1959, Cuba has been a bastion of socialism in Latin America, standing as a challenge to the capitalist order and the hegemonic influence of the United States. However, Fidel Castro's illness in 2006 and the subsequent transfer of power to his brother Raúl Castro in 2008 mark the beginning of a reform process aimed at modernizing the Cuban system in response to growing economic and social difficulties.This analysis seeks to understand the dynamics that have characterized this reformist process and its impact on the stability of the Cuban political regime. The central objectives of this research are multiple and focus on analyzing the reforms introduced by Raúl Castro, which range from the expansion of the private sector and opening up to foreign investment to increasing space for the Catholic Church.
