La conquista del espacio: Un nuevo atributo de monumentalidad en la escultura del siglo XXI

Abstract

Cualquier creación que se sitúa en el espacio tiene vocación de monumento, es decir, de ocuparlo significativamente encontrando un lugar propio entre los demás seres u objetos presentes en él. En escultura la monumentalidad no la da el tamaño de la pieza, sino otros valores estéticos y conceptuales como la forma, atributos e intención del autor. Esta comunicación pretende descubrir cómo lo monumental cabe en la miniatura y cómo con un simple cambio de posición del objeto se gesta una nueva escenografía para conquistar la ascensión plástica. A partir de 1900 la apertura del bloque monolítico permite abstraer la forma y activar el espacio originando nuevas representaciones que han llegado hasta nuestros días. Hoy, los herederos de este legado establecen interesantes reflexiones sobre la dimensión humana, su entorno e interacciones, con obras expansivas que conciben la escultura como una fuente de energía interior que se proyecta en el espacio.Any creation placed in a certain space has potential for becoming a monument, that is to say, for meaningfully occupying it, finding its own placement between the rest of the present objects and living beings. In sculpture, monumentality isn´t given by the size of the piece of art, but by other aesthetic and conceptual values as the shape, attributes, and the author´s intention. This communication pretends to discover how monumentality fits in miniature and how from a simple position change a new scenography able to reach plastic elevation is brought about. From 1900 the opening of the monolithic block has allowed to abstract the shape and activate the space creating new representations that have remained until our days. Today, the heirs of this legacy establish interesting reflections on the human dimension, its surroundings and its interactions, with expansive works that conceive sculpture as an inner energy source that projects in space.
