Abstract
Los diques son intrusiones magmáticas tabulares estrechas, pero de gran extensión vertical y lateral, que constituyen el principal mecanismo de transporte de magma en la litosfera frágil de planetas rocosos. En Marte, se ha hipotetizado durante largo tiempo que extensos sistemas de graben estrechos y de gran longitud han sido producidos por fallas nucleadas en el ápice superior de diques emplazados a profundidades relativamente someras. Estos sistemas están presentes, entre otras localizaciones, en las regiones volcánicas de Tharsis y Elysium. En esta tesis se han estudiado varios sistemas de graben presuntamente inducidos por diques en la región de Elysium, en concreto, en las zonas de Elysium, Cerberus, y Galaxias Fossae...
Dikes are narrow magmatic intrusions of great vertical and lateral extension, which arethe main magma transport mechanism in the brittle lithosphere of rocky planets. On Mars, it has been long hypothesized that narrow and long graben systems have been produced by faults nucleated at the upper tip of dikes emplaced at relatively shallow depths. These graben systems are present, among other locations, at the volcanic regions of Tharsis and Elysium.
