Abstract
If you were a physical education teacher, would you accept to be evaluated by the physical development of your students? And if the evaluator warns you that the criterion is not valid, would you insist in using it? That’s what the countries participating in PISA do with intellectual education. How the success of PISA may be explained? An important factor is its high technical quality; secondly, its ability to merge opposing ideologies; and a third element is the skill to avoid problems with participants. But the decisive component of PISA is the irresistible attraction of political contenders to rankings.
