Abstract
La presente tesis está destinada al estudio del overtourism en destinos urbanos; su objetivo es determinar el alcance del fenómeno en diez ciudades españolas y de analizar las medidas de contención que se están aplicando en ellas, así como otras estrategias que se pueden adoptar para evitar o mitigar sus impactos negativos. Las ciudades –seleccionadas para el estudio por su relevancia turística en el ámbito urbano– son: Barcelona, Madrid, València, Donostia/San Sebastián, Málaga, Sevilla, Palma, Bilbao, Santiago de Compostela y Gijón/Xixón. De acuerdo con la concepción aquí defendida, la existencia de overtourism no puede determinarse exclusiva ni fundamentalmente en función de datos objetivos de naturaleza cuantitativa, sino que depende crucialmente de cómo se percibe el proceso de transformación socioespacial de los lugares vinculados al desarrollo turístico: en concreto, en esta investigación se entiende por overtourism la situación que se da en un destino turistificado de acuerdo con la percepción de sus residentes, sus visitantes y otros actores relacionados con la actividad turística...
This thesis is aimed at the study of overtourism in urban destinations; its objective is to determine the extent of the phenomenon in ten Spanish cities and to analyse the containment measures that are being applied in them, as well as other strategies that can be adopted to avoid or mitigate its negative impacts. The cities –selected for the study because of their relevance for tourism in the urban environment– are Barcelona, Madrid, València, Donostia/San Sebastian, Malaga, Seville, Palma, Bilbao, Santiago de Compostela and Gijón/Xixón.According to the conception defended here, overtourism cannot be determined exclusively or fundamentally based on objective quantitative data but depends crucially on how the socio-spatial transformation of places linked to tourism development is perceived.
