El sistema respiratorio es una intrincada red de órganos y tejidos diseñada para facilitar el correcto intercambio gaseoso en los alveolos. Además, cuenta con diferentes mecanismos de defensa claves para prevenir su colonización por patógenos. En este sistema, el surfactante pulmonar, sintetizado y secretado por las células alveolares tipo II, desempeña un papel crucial al reducir la tensión superficial de la interfase aire líquido del alveolo, optimizando así la dinámica respiratoria.
