El Consejo de Indias en la monarquía hispánica de Carlos II, 1665-1700

Abstract

La elaboración de esta investigación sobre el Consejo de Indias tiene tres grandes motivaciones. Primero, cubrir la falta de bibliografía específica dedicada al Consejo, más allá del ya clásico libro de Schäfer, a pesar de ser una de las instituciones más importantes del sistema polisinodial Austria. En segundo lugar, profundizar en el conocimiento del reinado de Carlos II, tradicionalmente olvidado, en comparación con sus antepasados y sucesores. Y, por último, superar la división creada en los estudios dedicados a América o Europa, aunque formaban parte de la misma Monarquía Hispánica.El primer objetivo fue recabar toda la información posible sobre los principales protagonistas de la institución: los consejeros. Para ello, se realizó un estudio prosopográfico dedicado a aquellos individuos –recogido en el primer y el segundo capítulo–, donde aparecen los datos personales localizados y su relación con la institución: los tipos de plazas que disfrutaron y las vías de acceso que utilizaron, los méritos que presentaron, las recompensas económicas y honoríficas que recibieron, su naturaleza, qué relaciones personales establecieron y cómo influyeron a la hora de conseguir los nombramientos, etc.; en definitiva, toda información que permitiera reconstruir el perfil de los consejeros de Indias...This research about the Council of Indies was born out of three reason. First, beyond the already classic book by Schäfer, there is a lack of specific bibliography dedicated to the Council despite being one of the most important institutions of the polisinodial Austria system. Second, there is a need to deepen the knowledge of the reign of Charles II, a period that is traditionally forgotten in comparison to his ancestors and successors. Lastly, this research attempts to overcome the division created in the studies about America or Europe, notwithstanding the fact that both territories were part of the same Hispanic Monarchy.The first objective is to gather all the information about the counselors; the main actors of the institution. The member’s prosopography was studied which is included in the first and second chapters. It shows the personal data of the counselors and their relationship with the institution: the kind of places that they enjoyed and how they became counselors, their values, the economics and honorific profits that they acquired, their origin of birth, the kind of relationships they made and how these worked for their interests, etc. These parts deal with all the information that could rebuild the profile of the counselors.
