Abstract
The life of Beatriz de Moura goes through the contemporary publishing field from her position as editor in chief of Tusquets Editores over four decades, and her intervention as a cultural agent in the tensions between the economic and symbolic poles. The main objective of this research is to highlight the female presence alongside the historization of its protagonists’ biographies. These women have remained invisible and on the margins of the historiographical narrative that addresses the second half of the twentieth century and the first decades of the twenty-first century. The methodological reflection led us to conclude that we were in need of a new interpretative framework to study the business and publishing trajectory of Beatriz de Moura. Her work over fifty years in the publishing industry also allows us to understand procedures and general problematics in book history. In order to do so, our interdisciplinary methodology blends publishing history with a circular vision of both publishing and reception practices, and the sociological perspective of cultural agents. All of it carried out under a gender perspective that stands as the fundamental analytical vector to build up a holistic vision of Beatriz de Moura’s life. The vast corpus comprises historical and press archives, her personal legacy of private and business documents from Tusquets, held in different international institutions, as well as first hand oral sources through personal interviews. The complementary use of these materials became essential to study an unparalleled female figure in the publishing history of Spanish speaking countries...
