Abstract
The failure of Christian democracy is one of the most significant events of the Spanish Transition. Despite their broad expectations, the impossible understanding among the main Christian Democrat leaders weakened their electoral options. Through unpublished material, it intends to trace a new journey through the history of the different Christian-Democratic formations with the aim of understanding the way in which the actions of their highest leaders motivated that failure. Excessive ambitions, strategic discrepancies, mutual mistrust and the complex game of perceptions and self-perceptions were an impediment to a union that diluted the options of Christian democracy.
