La artritis reumatoide (AR) es una enfermedad inflamatoria crónica que afecta principalmente a las articulaciones, pero puede incluir manifestaciones extraarticulares. Los síntomas predominantes de la AR son el dolor, la rigidez y la hinchazón de las articulaciones periféricas. En España, la prevalencia de esta enfermedad se estimó de 0,82% en el año 2016.La AR se considera una patología autoinmune, y en la mayoría de los pacientes se detecta una respuesta de autoanticuerpos frente a autoantígenos, siendo el factor reumatoide (FR) y los anticuerpos anti-péptidos citrulinados (ACPA) los autoanticuerpos más frecuentes.
