Abstract

La conservación preventiva en museos incluye el control de diversos factores de deterioro entre los que se encuentran la humedad relativa y temperatura incorrectas, la iluminación, fuerzas físicas, el agua o el fuego, las plagas, robos y vandalismo o la disociación, además de la contaminación atmosférica. Este último constituye uno de los factores de deterioro que últimamente focaliza mayor atención por parte de los investigadores. En la actualidad, se conocen mejor cuales son los contaminantes que deterioran el patrimonio gracias a los actuales sistemas de medición y, además se conocen sus efectos negativos sobre las personas, el medio ambiente y también sobre el patrimonio cultural. Queda aún, sin embargo, mucho por investigar sobre este tema y cómo afecta a las colecciones situadas en interior de museos. Por ello, el presente proyecto ha tenido como objetivo fundamental el estudio de ciertos contaminantes atmosféricos (NO_2, SO_2, O_3, HCHO y CH_3COOH) en un contexto espacial concreto, el Centro de Arte Complutense, con el objetivo de conocer, a través de muestreos mediante un sistema de captación pasiva, si existe riesgo sobre las obras que son y serán expuestas debido a este factor de deterioro. Como resultado de este estudio, se ha detectado la presencia de altas concentraciones de algunos de los contaminantes muestreados, y por tanto, se considera la necesidad de acometer actuaciones para la correcta conservación de las obras albergadas.

Preventive conservation at museums includes the control of different damaging factors. Among these factors we might find: incorrect relative humidity and temperature, light, physical forces, water or fire, pests, thieves and vandalism or dissociation, also atmospheric pollutants. The last ones mentioned constitute one of the most damaging factors, which lately are majorly investigated by researches. Nowadays, it is well known what kinds of pollutants are causing heritage damaging thanks to the current measuring systems, as well as how these pollutants cause negative effects on people, the environment, and also over cultural heritage. Still, a lot of research is needed about this topic and understand how pollutants and other factors affect art collections located inside museums. Hence, this project aims fundamentally to the study of certain atmospheric pollutants (NO_2, SO_2, O_3, HCHO y CH_3COOH) in a concrete space context. In order to acquire knowledge related to this topic through passive sampling, the complutense art center, measures the risks associated to this damaging factors with the exposure of artwork which is and will be presented. As a result, we have detected the presence of high concentration of some of the measured pollutants; therefore, it is considered the necessity to undertake actions for the proper conservation of exposed artworks.
