| dc.description.abstract | The author presents the origin of non-Euclidean geometry in the works of J. Bolyai, C. F. Gauss and N. I. Lobachevskiĭ. The main ideas from the Appendix by Bolyai (1831) and from Pangeometria by Lobachevskiĭ (posthumous, 1855) and the reaction of Gauss to the publications of Lobachevskiĭ and Bolyai are presented. The paper contains many excerpts from the works of Lobachevskiĭ and Bolyai and from the letters of Gauss and Bolyai. The exposition is illustrated with many figures. Brief biographies of Bolyai and Lobachevskiĭ are also included. | |

Contiene facsímil del Apéndice", traducción al inglés con notas. Hay una biografía de Bolyai, entre otras interesantes cosas más. B.A. ROSENFELD: "A history of non-eucHdean geometryy". Springer Verlag, 1988. El libro de Rosenfeld abarca demasiado, es partidista, pero tiene interesantes citas antiguas y modernas, y una copiosa bibliografía. K. GAUSS: Obras completas vol. 8. Teubner, Leipzig (1900) V. F. KAGÁN: "Lobachevski" M.I.R. Moscú (1986). Este es un libro muy completo pero lleno de prejuicios y altamente partidista. Los aspectos matemáticos son interesantes pero hay que contrastarlos con el original, pues me parece que ciertos pasajes de Lobachevski están ligeramente perfeccionados en el texto. Alguna frase sobre Bolyai es grotesca. P. STACKEL Y F . ENGEL: Gauss, les deux Bolyai et la Géométrie non Euclidienne, traducido por L. Laugel de Math. Ann.49(1897) 149-167.Contiene interesantes cartas entre Gauss y Bolyai. J. M. MONTESINOS-AMILIBIA:"Los modelos clásicos de la geometría hiperbólica" (en preparación) Otros libros interesantes: J.
