Abstract
ABSTRACT: The present research work focuses on the relationship that theologian Rudolf Otto finds between the aesthetic category of the sublime and the numinous, a concept he proposes in his book "Das heilige" (1917) as a key to understanding the sacred detached from any moral or rational aspect. Although he establishes an analogy between the two, he places them in two separate fields. This paper aims to analyze the conception of the sublime Otto presents in "The Holy" as well as what nuances in the evolution of the term are left behind in his comparison, with the goal of reelaborate the relationship between aesthetics and religion by searching for confluences, similarities or common sources between the numinous and the origin and evolution of the sublime. To this end, this work must take into account the references through which Otto builds the numinous, as well as the theoretical evolution that the complex concept of the sublime has undergone.
