Relationship between disability, gender, and discrimination: Analysis of the RISEWISE survey (H2020)

Abstract

Este trabajo recoge el análisis mediante técnicas estadísticas multivariantes de la encuesta piloto que se llevó a cabo en el proyecto (financiado por la Unión Europea en su programa Horizonte 2020) RISEWISE (Rise Women with Disabilities in Social Engagement) en los países de Italia y España en el año 2021. El principal objetivo del estudio es conocer las expectativas y necesidades que encuentran en su vida cotidiana las mujeres con diversidad funcional, así como las barreras, no exclusivamente físicas o materiales. Mediante la aplicación de análisis de correspondencias múltiples y modelos log-lineales se estudia la relación entre el acceso al empleo, discriminación sufrida, diversidad funcional de las encuestadas, dificultades en su vida cotidiana y utilización de recursos tecnológicos y redes sociales. Los resultados obtenidos pueden contribuir a futuros proyectos con muestras de tamaño superior para investigar el fenómeno de la doble discriminación. Además, por los escasos estudios relacionados con este hecho, este análisis preliminar es importante para fomentar la conciencia y la sensibilización sobre las barreras que enfrentan las mujeres con discapacidad y promover entornos inclusivos que permitan su plena participación en todos los ámbitos de la sociedad.This work presents the analysis using multivariate statistical techniques of the pilot survey conducted in the RISEWISE project (Rise Women with Disabilities in Social Engagement), funded by the European Union under its Horizon 2020 program, in Italy and Spain in 2021. The main objective of the study is to understand the expectations and needs encountered in the daily lives of women with functional diversity, as well as the barriers they face, which are not exclusively physical or material. By applying multiple correspondence analysis and log-linear models, the relationship between access to employment, experienced discrimination, functional diversity of the respondents, difficulties in their daily lives, and the use of technological resources and social networks is examined. The obtained results can contribute to future projects with larger sample sizes to investigate the phenomenon of double discrimination. Furthermore, given the limited number of studies related to this issue, this preliminary analysis is important for raising awareness and sensitizing people about the barriers faced by women with disabilities and promoting inclusive environments that enable their full participation in all areas of society
