Abstract
Las enfermedades y desórdenes de origen inflamatorio afectan a más de un 70% de la población mundial. Su etiología es muy variable y puede provocar trastornos de carácter crónico en la gran mayoría de los casos estudiados, así como serias disminuciones en la calidad de vida de los pacientes afectados. La OMS describe las enfermedades inflamatorias crónicas como ‘una de las más importantes causas de muerte en el mundo, y por lo tanto, un problema de salud pública de primer orden’. Los fármacos encuadrados en el grupo de los Antiinflamatorios no Esteroideos (AINEs) y los corticosteroides constituyen los tratamientos de uso más común para este tipo de desórdenes. Estos fármacos han demostrado su eficacia en la mayor parte de los casos clínicos, pero siempre asociado a diversos efectos secundarios e interacciones con otros posibles principios activos presentes en terapias complejas. Esta circunstancia justifica el actual interés hacia la búsqueda de alternativas terapéuticas, incluyendo derivados o extractos de plantas, para las que son crecientes las evidencias que corroboran su eficacia. Inflammatory diseases and disorders affect more than 70% of the world's population. Their aetiology is highly variable leading to chronical disorders in a vast majority of cases reported, and a serious worsening of patients' quality of life. The World Health Organisation (WHO) describes chronic inflammatory diseases (CD) as ‘one of the most important causes of death in the world and, ultimately, a major public health problem’. Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatories (NSAIDs) and corticosteroids constitute nowadays the most commonly-used treatments for this kind of disorders. These drugs proved efficacy in the vast majority of clinical situations, but associated to certain side effects and interactions with other possible drugs present in complex treatments used concomitantly. This situation justifies the present interest to search for therapeutic alternatives, including plant derivatives or extracts, for which there is increasing evidence and scientific literature that corroborates their efficacy. In this context, skin disorders associated to inflammatory processes such as atopic dermatitis urticaria, pruritus, or psoriasis demands more effective treatments, what constitutes the focus of the present work...
