El lugar de la caligrafía : tiempo y escritura en la obra de Morita Shiryū (1948-1992)

Abstract

El trabajo de investigación que se presenta con el título “El lugar de la caligrafía: tiempo y escritura en la obra de Morita Shiryū (1948-1992)” examina las aportaciones teóricas y prácticas de Morita Shiryū (1912-1998) a la formulación de la caligrafía japonesa de vanguardia como género artístico independiente en el panorama del arte global. A través de la construcción de un marco teórico y artístico sólido, Morita Shiryū planteó la ruptura formal y el análisis profundo de la tradición como base para la (r)evolución caligráfica, que vivió su auge en la década de 1950 a través de su proyección internacional y bajo la motivación de un posible diálogo con la pintura abstracta. Su dedicación sistemática al estudio, la práctica y la reflexión teórica aseguró la continuidad y adaptación a nuevos contextos para este género. Los objetivos concretos de esta investigación se centran en contribuir a posicionar y destacar la importancia de los estudios sobre caligrafía japonesa en el discurso global del arte, constituyendo la teoría estética de Morita Shiryū una herramienta esencial en esta reivindicación artística. Además, se pretende poner en valor la labor editorial de Morita Shiryū y facilitar su estudio en contextos de habla no japonesa. Finalmente, se busca plantear alternativas a las anteriores aproximaciones al objeto de estudio. This research presented under the title “The Place of Calligraphy: Time and Writing in the Work of Morita Shiryū (1948-1992)” examines the theoretical and practical contributions of Morita Shiryū (1912-1998) to the formulation of avant-garde Japanese calligraphy as an independent artistic genre within the global art landscape.Through the construction of a solid theoretical and artistic framework, Morita Shiryū proposed formal rupture and in-depth analysis of tradition as the foundation for the (r)evolution of calligraphy, wich reached its peak in the 1950s through its international projection and the prospect of a possible dialogue with abstract painting. His systematic dedication to study, practice, and theoretical reflection ensured both the continuity and adaptation of this genre to new contexts.The specific objectives of this research focus on contributing to studies on Japanese calligraphy and highlighting its significance within the global discourse of art, as well as on emphasizing Morita Shiryū’s aesthetic theory as an essential tool for artistic recognition. Additionally, this study seeks to underscore Morita’s editorial work and facilitate its examination in non-Japanese-speaking contexts.
