Abstract

This study investigates the dynamics of online romantic relationships among emerging adults from three European countries: Italy, Poland, and Spain. Specifically, it explores (a) the quality and stability over a five-week period of these relationships, and (b) cross-national differences in relationship management. A sample of 115 participants completed questionnaires measuring relationship quality, emotional communication strategies, and online behaviors. Data were analyzed using nonparametric repeated measures and group comparisons. Results revealed overall stability in romantic relationships, with Italian participants showing increased online jealousy, Polish participants enhancing relationship identification, and Spanish participants maintaining lower levels of jealousy and control. These findings suggest cultural nuances in how young adults navigate online romantic interactions, highlighting the influence of traditional values and digital contexts. The study underscores the need for longitudinal research to understand how digital platforms shape romantic relationships over time and across cultures.
