Episcopado y conflicto político durante la guerra civil castellana (ca. 1465-1468)

Abstract

La presente tesis tiene por objetivo abordar el estudio de la participación política del episcopado en la contienda civil que se vivió en el reino de Castilla entre 1465 y 1468, así como valorar la importancia de su intervención en el curso de la guerra. El episcopado, como uno de los estamentos privilegiados del reino, tuvo una especial presencia en este proceso conflictivo, cuyo cénit se alcanzó en 1465, cuando parte del reino apoyó la deposición de Enrique IV y reconoció como rey al príncipe Alfonso, iniciándose con ello un conflicto que habría de durar hasta julio de 1468. El trabajo se ha centrado en el análisis de su intervención en el conflicto general por el control del trono castellano desde la perspectiva de su afectación a la gobernación del reino y al curso de la guerra. Para ello, la tesis se ha estructurado en siete grandes bloques temáticos, divididos, a su vez, en distintos capítulos que han permitido examinar su participación e influencia en este conflicto...

The object of this work is the study of the political role of the episcopate during the Castilian civil war of the years 1465-1468, along with the assessment of the significance of its intervention throughout the conflict. The episcopacy, as a privileged component of the realm’s establishment, played a crucial part in that conflictive process. Its zenith was reached in 1465, when a portion of the kingdom supported the deposition of Henry IV and acknowledged prince Alfonso as the new king, thus inaugurating a struggle that continued until July 1468. This work is focused in analysing episcopal intervention in the general contest for the control of the throne of Castile from both the perspectives of its impact upon the kingdom’s governance and the outcome of the war.
