Introduction: overview of EU-LAC relations

Abstract

This chapter examines the global milieu in which the EU-Latin American relationship occurs, specifically focusing on the changes in globalization-related policies. The analysis asserts that in a world currently experiencing a dangerous period of uncertainty and several crises, the link between Europe and Latin America is of utmost importance. This partnership provides reliable allies throughout difficult transitions that are just beginning and enables the possibility of renewing the social compact. This is why the restart of bi-regional political discussion, regardless of its limited immediate outcomes, represents noteworthy progress. The chapter concludes by presenting and explaining the Handbook and its eight sections. This is done to give the reader an understanding of the valuable insights provided by the 43 authors in the discussion about the past, present, and future of the EU-Latin American alliance.
