El artista plástico contemporáneo como artista-obrero accidental

Abstract

El concepto de “artista” ha implicado numerosas acepciones a lo largo de la historia de la humanidad, y es que siempre han existido manifestaciones dignas de ser consideradas “artísticas”, así como “artistas” a quienes las concibieron, y empleo el término “concebir” porque implica este tanto la ideación como la ejecución, pues hoy se incluye muchas veces bajo el abrigo del concepto “artista” a quienes meramente idean conceptos o situaciones. No obstante, si se echa la vista muy hacia atrás puede comprobarse que la labor física siempre ha estado presente en el denominado “trabajo artístico”. Dado que desde antiguo la labor del artesano ha estado emparentada con la del artista, no extraña que incluso en los tiempos actuales muchas sean las ocasiones en que se produce un momento de intersección entre el obrero u operario y el artista, no en vano se manejan en similares o idénticas técnicas, si bien en aras de alcanzar uno u otro objetivos muy diferentes. El artista persigue un fin estético; el obrero, funcional, pero lo que es innegable es que tanto artes como oficios han cohabitado durante largo tiempo, habiendo incluso nacido a la vez de un mismo parto. Por ello el trabajo artesanal siempre ha estado vinculado, de una u otra forma, a los dominios de las artes plásticas, impartiéndose, incluso, en las enseñanzas regladas nociones de tradicionales oficios de índole artesanal...

The concept of “artist” has comprised numerous meanings throughout the history of mankind, and there have always been manifestations worthy to be considered “artistic” and those who have conceived them “artists”, and I use the term “conceive” because it implies both the conception and the execution, since nowadays the term “artist” often includes those who merely devise concepts. However, if one were to look far back, one can comprehend that physical work has always been very present in the so-called “artistic work”. Because of the fact that since ancient times the work of the craftsman has been akin to that of the artist, there is no surprise that, even in modern time, there are many occasions in which a moment of intersection between the labourer or craftsman and the artist occurs. It is not without importance that they both make use of similar or identical techniques, although in order to achieve very different objectives. The artist pursues an aesthetic purpose; the labourer, a functional one, but what is undeniable is that both fine arts and crafts have coexisted for a long time, and were even born at the same time, in the same birth. Therefore, craftsmanship has always been linked, in one way or another, to the realm of the fine arts, to the point that notions belonging to traditional, handmade crafts have been imparted in regular courses...
