Abstract

The present research, Mexican intellectuals and the identity myth. Conquest, Hispanophilia, indigenism and miscegenation (1917-2019), is proposed to examine the works of the most important Mexican intellectuals regarding identity myths. The underlying hypothesis is that this study will contribute to clarifying a good number of questions about their works, configured in different genres - the essay, the novel and even theater– and under different approaches –from Hispanism to indigenism. Likewise, thanks to this work we will delve into the literary history around Mexican identity myths and the intellectual relations between Mexico and Spain...La presente investigación, Los intelectuales mexicanos y el mito identitario. Conquista, hispanofilia e indigenismo (1917-2019), se propone desentrañar los canales y mecanismos que han construido y transformado las distintas miradas sobre la identidad nacional, la conquista y el mestizaje en México durante los siglos XX y XXI, prestando especial atención a la obra de cuatro de los escritores mexicanos más influyentes de sus respectivas épocas: Alfonso Reyes (1889-1959), José Vasconcelos (1882-1959), Octavio Paz (1914-1998) y Carlos Fuentes (1928-2012).
