Abstract
Carbohydrates are biomolecules that play essential roles in biological and pathological processes due to their structural variety. The different monosaccharides which constitute the molecules and the regio- and stereoselectivity of the glycosidic bonds determine their functions. In addition, the complexity of carbohydrates increases with the combination with other biomolecules such as proteins or lipids to form glycostructures. The synthesis of carbohydrates implies the application of expensive processes and high environmental impact. In the current work, we propose the development of glycostructures following the 12 Principles of the Green Chemistry. Two main objectives have been proposed, which have been approached in two chapters.- In the first one we evaluate the combination of chemical and enzymatic strategies in the development of multivalent systems as glycodendrimers derived from glucuronic acid with potential antiviral activities.- The second chapter is focused in the regioselective synthesis of sugar esters with potential surfactant and antimicrobial properties...
