dc.descriptionThis paper analyzes the discursive codes of the naked female breast in Roman funerary sculpture between the 2nd and 3rd centuries, particularly from the workshops of Ostia Antica. We discuss the naked female breast’s background in the religious sphere and its development in the funerary portrait, linked to the iconography of the virtuous wife and the reaffirmation of the lineage. Finally, we note its recovery in the portraits sculpted by the Lombardo in Renaissance Italy
dc.description.abstractEste trabajo analiza los códigos discursivos del pecho femenino desnudo en la escultura funeraria romana entre los siglos II y III, particularmente de los talleres lapídeos de Ostia Antica. Abordamos sus antecedentes en el ámbito religioso y su desarrollo en el retrato funerario, vinculado a la iconografía de la esposa virtuosa y a la reafirmación del linaje. Finalmente, señalamos su recuperación en los retratos esculpidos por los Lombardo en la Italia del Renacimiento.
