Abstract
The main objective of this Ph.D. dissertation is to understand and determine price formation processes of Spanish wine, paying special attention to quality aspects. In addition, these price formation processes are analysed in 25 different international markets. The thesis is articulated around three main axes. (i) From the theoretical perspective, the analysis of the formation of market prices in different markets of a specific good, i.e. the Spanish wine. (ii) Hedonic price theory, which is a suitable and useful methodological tool for these purposes. (iii) The meta-analysis technique. The thesis is divided into five chapters, four main ones and a final chapter of conclusions and final considerations. The first two are closely related, they focus on a thorough review of the literature. Chapter 1 records and review all the studies that have analysed price formation processes in wine markets through the estimation of hedonic price functions. More than two hundred papers are registered, with which two types of analysis are carried out. The first one reviews this literature identifying and describing the characteristics of the samples used, acknowledging the solutions proposed to the different issues that any hedonic research on prices has to face. The second analysis uses the rich and meticulous database built from the literature review to highlight the most relevant aspects...
