Abstract
Claudio Constanzo is one of the most important sources regarding the milestones in the area of Santiago Bencáliz (Cáceres, Extremadura, Spain), close to the so-called Vía de la Plata. But an error by Hübner when transmitting Constanzo’s original data about two milestones (CIL II 4653-4654) provoked some false correspondences, duplications and erroneous locations for these milestones for a century and a half. This paper aims to analyze these misunderstandings, to try to find their origin and to observe their problematic consequences maintained by epigraphic scholarship until today. In addition, new information are provided about several unpublished milestones from the same area.
