Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic, caused by SARS-CoV-2, has raised specific concerns for people with HIV (PHIV). Both infections are associated with issues related to chronic inflammation, premature aging, the risk of developing cancer, and cardiovascular disease (CVD), and they affect microRNA (miRNA) expression levels. The main objective of this thesis was to analyze the mid-term impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on PHIV, through the determination of plasma biomarkers related to the aspects described above and the analysis of miRNA profiles.A total of 95 PHIV on antiretroviral therapy were included, stratified according to their SARS-CoV-2 infection status: 1) 48 PHIV at ≥ 12 weeks since SARS-CoV-2 infection diagnosis (PCR+) (HIV/SARS) and 2) 47 PHIV without prior SARS-CoV-2 infection (HIV). Epidemiological and clinical data were collected from medical records. Plasma markers associated with chronic inflammation, premature aging, cancer risk and CVD were selected and quantified using Procartaplex multiplex ELISA assays (InvitrogenTM, Thermo Fisher Scientific, USA)...
