Hiperglucemia y diabetes mellitus como factores pronósticos de insuficiencia cardíaca

Abstract

La diabetes mellitus (DM) y la insuficiencia cardiaca (IC) son dos enfermedades crónicas de elevada prevalencia que a menudo coexisten. Suponen un elevado coste económico para el sistema sanitario por su gran morbimortalidad. La necesidad de ampliar el conocimiento en algunos aspectos de la relación entre ambas justifica la importancia de esta tesis doctoral, que se ha realizado mediante compendio de tres artículos de investigación. El primer trabajo que compone esta tesis explora la relación de la IC con la inflamación. El fenómeno inflamatorio está implicado en la fisiopatología de la IC, pero el papel que tienen los biomarcadores de inflamación a nivel diagnóstico, terapéutico o pronóstico en esta entidad permanece sin aclarar. La hipótesis de trabajo fue que los pacientes mayores con IC estable e interleucina 6 (IL-6) elevada presentan mayor mortalidad al año de seguimiento que los que tienen niveles normales. The need to expand knowledge in some aspects of the relationship between the two justifies the relevance of this doctoral thesis, which consists of a compendium of three research articles.
