dc.description.abstractThe salt flow through passive membranes, separating two solutions of the same electrolyte but of different concentrations, has been obtained from a method based on the determination of the electric resistance between two fixed points in the more diluted solution. It permits to determine the membrane system permeability and the ionic permeabilities, if the corresponding membrane potentials are known. The described method has been applied to Millipore membranes of different pore diameter and with different 1-1 electrolyte solutions.
