The chapter compares approaches to the ecological transition in developed and developing economies, noting that frameworks like the ‘social-ecological transition’ may be more applicable to developed regions, whereas the Global South faces unique challenges. The countries of India, Kenya and Argentina serve as case studies to illustrate varying strategies. While developing economies like India and Kenya focus on development rather than justice, Argentina integrates the just transition concept into its policies. The conclusion emphasises that transitions must account for local realities, especially in the Global South, where energy poverty and differing social protections shape the challenges faced. The need for community engagement, equitable access to technology and consideration of Indigenous practices are highlighted as critical factors for a successful transition.
