La presencia del arte de India en Gran Bretaña : formación, desarrollo y difusión de las colecciones y análisis crítico de los discursos expositivos, interpretativos e historiográficos (1801-1899)

Abstract

La presencia del arte indio en Gran Bretaña, principalmente a partir del siglo XIX, constituye un fenómeno complejo que requiere de un examen global alejado de la tradicional segmentación con el que la historiografía lo ha tratado, así como de las interpretaciones binarias reducidas a la ecuación expolio/preservación. Se trata de penetrar en en cada uno de los nodos que conforman la trama de dicho fenómeno pero, sobre todo, la tesis propone una visión global en la que todos ellos estén incluidos, de forma que se pueda trazar un mapa general que permita no sólo responder algunas cuestiones aún pendientes sino también formular otras preguntas que contribuyan a enriquecer el conocimiento que se tiene de la llegada del arte de India a Europa a través de las islas británicas...The thesis is based on the hypothesis that the presence of Indian art in Great Britain mainly from the19th century onwards constitutes a complex phenomenon that requires a global examination far from the traditional segmentation with which historiography has treated it as well as from the interpretations binaries reduced to the plunder/preservation equation. It is not about penetrating in depth into each of the nodes that make up the fabric of said phenomenon, but rather about proposinga global vision in which all of them are included, so that a general map can be drawn that allows not only answer some questions still pending but also formulate other questions that allow us to enrich the knowledge we have of the arrival of art from India to Europe through the British Isles...
