Abstract
Dental pathologies are very prevalent in domestic rabbit populations, making oral radiography an essential tool in the evaluation of rabbit dentition 8-51,131. The anatomy of the rabbit's mouth, with its narrow opening greatly limits the oral examination of the conscious animal. To establish a correct diagnosis of dental pathology, a knowledge of dental anatomy and physiology is necessary 6. Many authors show the importance of performing a radiographic examination of the rabbit's skull in different projections 131, giving some useful advice on treatment, but they rarely describe useful objective methods for determining the degree of dental pathology due to tooth elongation and it has not been possible to accurately monitor the progress of these changes. In this thesis, a variety of radiographic anatomical landmarks for the examination of rabbits are described. With the help of these landmarks, specific reference lines can be defined that allow the veterinary clinician to diagnose the specific pathology, its changes and to make accurate measurements for long-term follow-up if necessary. The use of these anatomical baselines greatly simplifies the explanation of oral problems to the animal's owners, as well as clearly seeing the extent of the changes. This allows them to better understand treatment recommendations and any complications...
