El signo igual y su significado en los libros de texto de primer ciclo de Educación Primaria

Abstract

El aprendizaje del significado de los símbolos matemáticos y en concreto, el signo igual, es muy importante para poder comprender multitud de expresiones aritméticas y algebraicas. Existen numerosos estudios que ponen de relieve que los estudiantes tienen grandes dificultades a la hora de captar su significado. Este artículo recoge una revisión de algunos de estos estudios que muestran las interpretaciones y usos del signo igual de los estudiantes, así como posibles causas de una comprensión incompleta de este signo y cómo se puede desarrollar una interpretación relacional del signo a través del pensamiento relacional. Además, presenta el estudio de la revisión de algunos libros de texto de matemáticas del primer ciclo de Educación Primaria, para establecer el modo y los contextos en los que se presenta el signo igual a los estudiantes en los primeros cursos.

Learning of the meaning of the mathematical symbols and in concrete, the equal sign, it is very important to be able to understand multitude of arithmetical and algebraic expressions. There exist numerous studies that emphasize that the students have big difficulties at the moment of catching his meaning. This article gathers a review from some from these studies that show the interpretations and uses of the equal sign of the students, as well as possible reasons of an incomplete understanding of this sign and how it is possible to develop a relational interpretation of the sign across the relational thinking. Besides, it presents the study of the review of some books of text of mathematics of the first cycle of Primary Education, to establish the way and the contexts in which one presents the equal sign to the students in the first courses.
