Abstract
This work aims to explore the ways that power and group relations are manifested between the characters in the play “The House of Bernarda Alba”, by Federico García Lorca. For this purpose, some concepts will be used: the taboo and the study of totemic societies (found in the book Totem and Taboo, by Sigmund Freud), related to the prohibitions imposed by Bernarda, who exercises the domination of her daughters, and the group organization of her house; Nietzsche's concept of will to power - found in some posthumous notes of the philosopher compiled by his sister and Peter Gast -, related to the struggles of the centers of force between the members of Bernarda’s house. And some concepts related to the functioning of groups, among others found in Group Psychology and Analysis of the Ego, by Sigmund Freud.
