| dc.description | This paper examines the rhetorical repertoire and morphology of self-help books. Drawing on Michel Foucault and Pierre Hadot‘s investigations on the forms of spirituality in the Western tradition, this article traces the genre‘s configuration in the late modern and contemporary periods, and proposes two essentials characteristics: the psychagogic function of its discourse and the existence of a canon or “framework of sense” which readers have to apply in their self- transformation through an ensemble of techniques of the self-provided by the text. | |
| dc.description.abstract | Este artículo pretende constituir una aproximación a la morfología del género de la autoayuda y su repertorio retórico. Partiendo de las investigaciones de Michel Foucault y Pierre Hadot sobre las formas de la espiritualidad en la tradición occidental, se estudia la configuración del género en la modernidad y se proponen dos características fundamentales: la función psicagógica de su discurso y la presencia de un canon o marco de sentido que el lector debe aplicar en su transformación como sujeto, mediante un conjunto de técnicas del yo que el texto proporciona. | |
