Abstract
This thesis aims to study the work "Ruined City" (1993), of the Chinese writer JIA Pingwa, from different levels of analysis, understood not only as a literary text, but as a cultural phenomenon of wide consequences within China and in the Exterior. This work is analyzed at a first level from its textual production and its relationship with the author's own previous work, previously known and recognized by critics, on the one hand, and with the generation called "Shaanxi province", with its own stylistic and thematic characteristics.¨Ruined city¨ represented a break from the author's previous trajectory, entering very different areas and that the China critic itself did not accept as it was considered "inappropriate" or too "daring" in terms of language and subject matter, which led to a critical, academic and of public, with diverse consequences. In the first part of this research, an analysis is carried out of the textual and stylistic, narratological and thematic elements, the mechanisms of avoiding censorship and other features of the text. The critical destination of the text in China is also collected, with censorship, pirate editions that circulated at the time, etc.Another important aspect of this part is the analysis of the codification of feelings and the traditional way of expressing them in literature against the forms that Pingwua incorporated as avant-garde and modern features, that is, the renewal of the "sentimental apparatus" and its repertoire and form of expression...
