Poéticas de dirección escénica en el Teatro de la Abadía (2010-2020)

Abstract

En esta investigación analizo, a través de un enfoque que combina el estudio teórico con el análisis de procesos escénicos concretos, cómo las decisiones de dirección configuran la identidad artística y la escenificación en uno de los referentes teatrales del panorama español: el Teatro de La Abadía. La investigación se centra en el análisis de treinta producciones del teatro de La Abadía, del 2010 al 2020, examinando la integración y la interacción de los distintos canales expresivos —texto, escenografía, iluminación, sonido, vestuario, visuales, caracterización y actuación— para materializar un ‘núcleo de convicción dramática’, que se traduce en líneas maestras estéticas y estilísticas. Basándose en la metodología del análisis de la escenificación propuesta por Jara Martínez Valderas y José Gabriel López Antuñano (eds., 2021), el estudio profundiza en la lectura concreta y contemporánea de los textos y en la formación de poéticas que emergen como firma distintiva de cada director o directora, evidenciando tanto innovaciones como tensiones entre lo realista y lo abstracto, y entre lo real y lo ficcional. La investigación también recoge datos significativos sobre la desigual presencia de mujeres en la dirección durante el periodo analizado, una cuestión que, aunque no constituye el foco central del estudio, resulta reveladora en términos de representación institucional. En suma, esta tesis ofrece una visión integral de las estrategias de creación teatral en La Abadía, resaltando su papel en la evolución del teatro contemporáneo español y específicamente madrileño y la necesidad de documentar y analizar las prácticas escénicas para garantizar un legado académico del hecho teatral.

In this research, I analyze, through an approach that combines theoretical study with the analysis of specific theatrical processes, how directorial decisions shape artistic identity and staging at one of the leading theatrical venues on the Spanish scene: Teatro de La Abadía.The research focuses on the analysis of thirty productions at Teatro de La Abadía, from 2010 to 2020, examining the integration and interaction of the different expressive channels—text, set design, lighting, sound, costumes, visuals, characterization, and acting—to materialize a "core of dramatic conviction," which translates into aesthetic and stylistic guidelines. Based on the staging analysis methodology proposed by Jara Martínez Valderas and José Gabriel López Antuñano (eds., 2021), the study delves into the concrete and contemporary reading of the texts and the formation of poetics that emerge as the distinctive signature of each director, highlighting both innovations and tensions between the realistic and the abstract, and between the real and the fictional. The research also gathers significant data on the unequal presence of women in directing during the period analyzed. Although not the central focus of the study, this issue is revealing in terms of institutional representation. In short, this thesis offers a comprehensive overview of theatrical creation strategies at La Abadía, highlighting its role in the evolution of contemporary Spanish theater, and specifically in Madrid, and the need to document and analyze performance practices to ensure an academic legacy of theatrical performance.
