Abstract
This chapter explores the intersection of energy efficiency, renewable energy sources (RES), and the preservation of cultural landscapes. Acknowledging the urgency to transition to RES and improve energy efficiency, the research aims to balance these objectives with the preservation of historical assets. The chapter provides an overview of legal aspects related to the protection of cultural landscapes while expanding RES. It analyzes regulatory mechanisms, considering environmental and cultural values. The evolving legal protection of cultural landscapes, influenced by international agreements and a broader European understanding, is discussed. In addition, it concludes that comprehensive conservation strategies must integrate rules at international, regional, national, and local levels.
