Abstract
Aborda la importancia crítica de la ciencia y la investigación y desarrollo (I+D+i) en el desarrollo global y nacional, enfatizando su rol en los cambios económicos y sociales. El documento destaca cómo la inversión en I+D+i ha moldeado históricamente las revoluciones industriales y la evolución tecnológica, y señala la necesidad de un nuevo contrato social que reconozca y apoye el papel central de la ciencia y la I+D+i en la sociedad. Se analiza el impacto de la I+D+i en diferentes sectores, incluida la economía, y se enfatiza la importancia de la planificación y coordinación en la inversión en ciencia e I+D+i a nivel nacional e internacional. También se discuten los desafíos específicos de España en el contexto de la I+D+i, incluida la financiación, la brecha territorial y la necesidad de un marco laboral estable y atractivo para los investigadores. El artículo sugiere que el futuro del desarrollo está intrínsecamente vinculado a la inversión efectiva en ciencia e I+D+i y aboga por una mayor cooperación y planificación en este campo para garantizar un desarrollo equitativo y sostenible.

It addresses the critical importance of science and research and development (R&D&I) in global and national development, emphasising its role in economic and social change. The paper highlights how investment in R&D and innovation has historically shaped industrial revolutions and technological evolution, and points to the need for a new social contract that recognises and supports the central role of science and R&D and innovation in society. It analyses the impact of R&D&I on different sectors, including the economy, and emphasises the importance of planning and coordination in investment in science and R&D&I at national and international levels. It also discusses the challenges specific to Spain in the context of R&D&I, including funding, the territorial divide and the need for a stable and attractive employment framework for researchers. The article suggests that the future of development is intrinsically linked to effective investment in science and R&D&I and argues for greater cooperation and planning in this field to ensure equitable and sustainable development.
