Abstract

The essay explores the evolving role of screens in contemporary art and daily life. Screens have transitioned from mere display surfaces to dynamic spaces that reshape perception and interaction. Initially embraced for their efficiency and portability, digital media allowed artworks to be easily transported and presented, leading to a reconsideration of traditional notions of truth and reality in art. Screens, in the last years, have been used as portals to alternative forms of presence and time, offering unique elasticity to thought and experience. Beyond their role as communicative tools, they shape the understanding of space, time, and self-perception, influencing engagement with ephemerality, materiality, and ethics in the digital age.

El ensayo explora el papel evolutivo de las pantallas en el arte contemporáneo y su papel en la vida cotidiana. Las pantallas han pasado de ser meros soportes de exhibición a convertirse en espacios dinámicos que transforman la percepción y la interacción. Inicialmente adoptados por su eficiencia y portabilidad, los medios digitales permitieron que las obras de arte se transportaran y presentaran fácilmente, lo que llevó a una reconsideración de las nociones tradicionales de verdad y realidad en el arte. Las pantallas desde hace unos años funcionan como portales hacia formas alternativas de presencia y tiempo, ofreciendo una elasticidad única al pensamiento y la experiencia. Más allá de su papel como herramientas de comunicación, configuran la comprensión del espacio, el tiempo y la autopercepción, influyendo en la relación con la fugacidad, la materialidad y la ética en la era digital.
