De la «Postilla super Genesim» al «Nouus commentarius» de Alfonso Fernández de Madrigal: historia de un texto

Abstract

RESUMEN: Este trabajo supone una aproximación a la primera obra del Tostado, conservada en los manuscritos autógrafos 13 y 14 de la Biblioteca de la Universidad de Salamanca, que es su primer comentario sobre los libros del Pentateuco. El conjunto se ha denominado, erróneamente, «Glossa super Pentateuchum», y el texto que nos ocupa, el primero de los cinco libros bíblicos, «Postilla breuis super Genesim». Se demuestra que dicho texto, que carece de título alguno, es en realidad una suerte de «ejercicio» exegético que se ciñe a las pautas del género denominado «postilla» y que sigue muy cerca la «Postilla» de Nicolás de Lira, y proponemos como título «Postilla super Genesim». El texto está en la base del monumental «Nouus commentarius» (la «Postilla» tiene 28 folios y el «Nouus commentarius» 322), conservado en tres manuscritos, de los cuales uno, de Cáceres, también está mal catalogado como «Postilla» y nosotros hemos identificado como del «Nouus». Tras la presentación de todos los testimonios y un acercamiento al género de la «postilla», se ofrece un análisis comparativo de los dos textos de Madrigal.

ABSTRACT: This work is an approach to Tostado’s first work, preserved in autograph manuscripts 13 and 14 of the Library of the University of Salamanca, which is his first commentary on the books of the Pentateuch. It has been erroneously called “Glossa super Pentateuchum”, and the text in question, the first of the five biblical books, “Postilla breuis super Genesim”. We show that this text, which lacks any title, is in fact a sort of exegetical “exercise” that the belongs to the genre called “postilla” and follows very closely the “Postilla” of Nicholas of Lyra. We suggest as its definitive title “Postilla super Genesim”. The text is at the base of the monumental “Nouus commentarius” (the “Postilla” has 28 pages and the “Nouus commentarius” 322), preserved in three manuscripts, one of which, from Cáceres, has also been classified erroneously as “Postilla” and we have identified it as part of the “Nouus”. After the presentation of all the testimonies and an approach to the genre of “postilla”, a comparative analysis of Madrigal’s two texts is offered.
