La Volcker Rule y las iniciativas europeas

Abstract

El estallido de la crisis en 2007 pone de manifiesto la necesidad de introducir reformas en el sistema financiero al entender que una de las causas de la crisis ha sido la deficiente regulación detectada en el sector. Partiendo de ello, se recogen las distintas propuestas de reforma estructural del sector bancario que se han venido desarrollando en distintos países del mundo y, más concretamente, en EEUU y en la Unión Europea así como en el Reino Unido. Todas ellas comparten la necesidad de establecer una mejor separación entre las actividades de la banca comercial y las actividades de inversión pero difieren en cuanto a la forma concreta en que dicha separación ha de materializarse.

The outbreak of the crisis in 2007 highlights the need for reforms in the financial system. Taking into account that one of the causes of the crisis has been a poorly regulated industry. On this basis, the various proposals for structural reform of the banking sector have been developed in different countries of the world are collected and, more specifically, in the US and the European Union as well as in the UK. They all share the need for a better separation between the activities of commercial banks and investment activities but differ as to the precise way in which this separation has to materialized.
