Abstract
Cardiovascular disease, within which acute myocardial infarction (AMI) can be found, is the world´s first cause of mortality and morbidity, provoking high economic costs. Given the fact that its appearance is linked to the presence of certain risk factors associated to lifestyle and stress management, psychological coping variables reveal important for the recovery from AMI.There is extensive literature that supports the relationship between negative emotions and psychopathology, showing poorer adjustment to previous experiences of serious illness. Consequently, worse physical health outcomes are found, which in turn influence quality of life, recovery and probability of relapse. However, important gaps in literature are detected within the study of positive emotions and posttraumatic growth in the context of cardiovascular disease and its relationship with physical recovery and psychological adjustment after suffering a potentially traumatic event, as is AMI...
